A new start-up business, Coasty, has undertaken the task of reducing the production of plastics that have become a major source of physical pollution. The company owes its success to Berks LaunchBox an incubator of businesses developed by Penn State University. Coastly makes paper straws that are different that traditional designs in that they are much stronger and durable. The incubator allows Coastly to test their product at local establishments to develop a proof of concept.Berks LaunchBox is located in the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading, PN.
- Coasty’s straws go through a post production process that dries the straws to reinforce their strength, which makes them five times stronger than most paper straws.
- The paper straws are made from sustainable harvested paper, which means they’re helping trees be planted by creating their products.
- Coasty’s straws are dye free, biodegrade in nature and are nontoxic which makes them safe to use for any age.
“Coasty was developed to bring the company’s high-quality eco-friendly products, which are currently available in restaurants, to everyday consumers.”
