Do I need a Grow Tray & Light Support?
If you’re using racking for your vertical grow system, you need something to place your grow trays on. If you place your grow tray on a pair of beams with nothing else supporting the tray, one small bump and your entire crop will fall on top of the plants on the level below. Don’t make that very costly mistake. Some inexperienced growers use wood to give the necessary support, but they forget that they’ll be watering their plants frequently. Wood doesn’t do well with water. Wood rots, gets moldy and invites insects, fungus and diseases that can destroy thousands of dollars of crop. Why risk that kind of damage to save a few bucks?
A more expensive alternative to Tray & Light Supports is a wire mesh deck (we have some in stock — call us). Wire mesh decks can provide a nice all-metal surface, but if you’re just going to put a grow tray on top of it, a wire deck is usually more than what most people need. Tray & Light Supports fill the need at a very affordable price.
How many do I need?
We recommend four grow tray & light supports for each level of an 8ft section of Garden Rack. For example, if you had a single bay of Garden Rack that is 8ft long with two grow levels, there would be a total of three-beam levels (the top level is just to hold the grow lights). In addition, you will want four per 8ft beam level, for a total of 12 supports.
Moreover, this gives you adequate support for your grow tray and also provides multiple hanging locations for your grow lights so you can position them exactly where you want them.
How do I install it?
Installation is easy. Just place them onto the beams. Similarly, for extra stability and security, add a tek screw into the flange to prevent the support from moving around. Once the Tray & Light Supports are secured, hang your lights from them in whatever configuration you need. Lastly, after your lights are installed, you will place your grow tray on top. That’s all there is to it!
