Mobile Grow Rack

Increase Your Canopy Space by 80-160% with Mobile Garden Racks

Our stationary vertical racking systems can double your canopy in the same square footage. However, if you want to grow your operation further, you’ll need to fully utilize the wasted aisle space.

Not only are stationary vertical racking systems fixed — you can’t move them — but they also create permanent aisles that are only occasionally required for plant maintenance. Most of the time, those aisles are just wasted space.

A mobile garden rack lets you convert that wasted aisle space into valuable growing space. Mobile racking allows you to move entire rows of racking next to each other to use nearly all of your available space for growing, and gives you the ability to move the racks back and forth to create aisles as needed for easy plant maintenance (watering, pruning, etc.).

If you’re not using a vertical racking system yet, then a 2-level mobile racking system could increase your canopy space by 160% or more.

If you are already using a stationary vertical racking system, then mobile racking could increase your canopy space by 80%.

Here’s How Mobile Racking Systems Maximize Your Yields and Profits

  • Like standard vertical racks, mobile racking can double or triple your yields
  • Mobile racks eliminate static aisles – increasing canopy grow space (which increases your potential revenue)
  • You’ll have access to each side of your garden racks – streamlining the time spent watering, harvesting, and tending to your crops (which decreases the cost of labor)
  • With a capacity of 2,500 lbs per grow level, you’ll be able to store plants, equipment, and anything else to clear floor clutter and optimize your grow space
  • Mobile racks are seismically engineered, meaning they’re built to protect your plants and business from being damaged by earthquakes (a city code requirement in many states, including Washington, Oregon, and California)

Plus, we can custom design your entire system.

From the racks to the tracks, we’ll work with you to construct a mobile racking system that increases your yield to the max.

The racks we got from were perfect for our space. We had 10 ft ceilings, and they custom-designed some racks to fit perfectly in the space we had. That helped us utilize every sqft of our existing space, and added another level of crops. We more-than-doubled our production with the Garden Rack vertical grow system.

My Garden Rack system from took me from 5,000 sqft of canopy to 10,000 sqft of canopy in my existing space. The guys at were awesome to guide me through the process of designing my grow, selecting the right racks, and getting it installed. I’m now producing twice as much crop and profits are outstanding.

Mobile Racking Options

There are two main types of mobile grow racks:

  1. Caster Racking is an affordable mobile grow rack that gives you simple mobility with a very small investment. It is ideal for indoor growers on a tight budget.
  2. Mobile Rack Systems are fully engineered systems designed for large commercial grow operations. It is the ultimate indoor growing system, provides both high density for maximum yield and also excellent convenience. Mobile Rack Systems work great for well-funded growers who want the best possible system to dominate their competition.

Caster Rack

If you’re looking for a simple mobile system that gives you the flexibility to move your crops at will, then caster racking is the solution you need.

Each vertical garden rack bay will be on easy-to-move casters that allow you to increase your canopy space, create aisles for easy plant access, and rearrange your warehouse for maximum productivity.

Benefits of Caster Rack

  • Every rack can be placed exactly where you want it
  • Racks can easily move rooms as they grow through different stages
  • Able to access all four sides of each makes for easy plant maintenance
  • Very affordable relative to Mobile Rack Systems

Challenges of Caster Rack

  • Each rack must be manually pushed around individually
  • Not seismically engineered (though many cities don’t require it because they consider it a “cart”)
  • Typically limited to 8-12 feet high and 2 or 3 grow levels
  • Multiple racks cannot be linked together

Mobile Rack Systems

Our mechanical mobile racking is built for growers who need a heavy-duty vertical grow system that utilizes all available space for growing valuable product by eliminating aisles.

You can smoothly move whole rows of crops by manually turning the carriage wheel, giving you full access to every plant while using almost all of your space for growing.

Benefits of Mobile Rack Systems

  • Easily move an entire row of crops
  • Quick plant maintenance because you can work on a full row of plants at once
  • Available in both manual crank and fully electric models
  • Systems can be 20-30 feet high and can have several grow levels
  • Seismically engineered so you can obtain permits on the system

Challenges of Mobile Rack Systems

  • Cost. The initial investment can be significant
  • Racks cannot easily move rooms as they grow through different stages
  • If you’re going above 8-12 feet, you typically need a scissor lift to maintain the plants

Mobile Grow Rack Recommendations

So what do we recommend for your grow? Caster racking or Mobile Rack Systems?

As with most things, it depends on what you need. But it usually comes down to what you can afford. If you’re well-funded and are prepared to make a significant investment to have the best and most dense operation for maximum yield, then a complete Mobile Rack System is the way to go.

If you’re on a budget, the Caster Rack gives you the density and mobility that you need at a much more affordable price.

I’ll be honest. What we see most often when we talk to growers is that everyone really wants the full Mobile Rack System. The payback period / return on investment seems very reasonable (as long as crop prices are strong), and it’s the best way to grow the most product in the least space.

However, once they get a quote, they find out just how expensive these systems can be. With crop prices falling in some markets, most people realize they just can’t afford it. (Of course we all want that Lambo, but we’ll have to stick with that Corolla until we get things rolling.)

Mobile Rack Pricing

So how much does it cost?

Every system is so different that most companies are reluctant to give out any pricing (they probably don’t want to scare you off before they can give you their hard-sell tactics). We work differently. We want you to have the most information possible so you can make the right decision for your growing business. Here’s one example just to give you an idea:

A single bay of stationary/fixed rack that measures 8’H x 3.5’W x 8’L with three grow levels will probably cost around $450. You can add wheels to that and make it mobile for about $200 more. So, figure about $650 for a single bay on wheels with three grow levels. (Remember, these are rough numbers — the price of steel changes daily, and there are a lot of other variables that can affect the price).

To get a fair comparison, we’ll look at pricing for an average warehouse with a mobile racking system. For an 8,000 to 10,000 sqft warehouse where you put about 150 bays of rack, the cost of the system + racking + installation is in the neighborhood of $150k to $250k+. That puts your price per 8′ bay at around $1,200 to $1,800+ if you’re doing a large project. Mobile racking systems are easily two or three times more expensive than caster racking. And we’re just talking about manual / mechanical mobile systems. Fully electric models are very cool, but they also add significantly to the price.

Once people do the math and see the total cost of a mobile racking system, most decide that they prefer the significant cost savings of caster racking over the convenience of a full Mobile Rack System.

I’m not trying to persuade you to go with the cheaper option — we can provide you with either — I’m just trying to be upfront so that you know what you’re getting yourself into as you explore the best solution for your growing business.

And not to be a broken record, but please remember that these are very rough numbers. Every situation is so different, and steel pricing changes daily. Hopefully the discussion above has given you some useful information to guide you in making the right decision.
